On October 19, the national meeting for exchange of working experiences of trade unions was held in Wuhan, Hubei Province. At the meeting, trade unions of various provinces and cities throughout the country exchanged practices and experiences accumulated in addressing challenges brought about by the international financial crisis, in participating in the restructuring of state-owned enterprises, in safeguarding workers’ rights and interests and in stimulating the economy to a steady and rapid development.

        ACFTU Vice-Chairperson and First Secretary Sun Chunlan attended the meeting and made a speech. She demanded that trade unions at various levels strive to raise the level of the scientific building of trade unions, do a good job of the trade union work, particularly the trade union work during the restructuring of the state-owned enterprises under new circumstances, rally and mobilize masses of workers to perform meritorious deeds for the steady and rapid development of the economy, strive to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of workers and maintain the stability of the ranks of workers and society.  

        Sun Chunlan demanded that trade unions at various levels should pay close attention to their participation in the restructuring of state-owned enterprises and view it as an important task, earnestly bring the democratic rights of workers into effect in the restructuring of enterprises, do a better job of the protection and aiding work for needy workers during the restructuring of state-owned enterprises, intensify their efforts in establishing trade unions in restructured enterprises, conscientiously give play to the roles of trade unions of restructured and bankrupt enterprises, facilitate the favorable restructuring of state-owned enterprises and ensure the realization of workers’ legitimate rights and interests.
